Man’s Death After Fall
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. A 28-year-old man found dead on a footpath in Newtown late last night is believed to have died of asphyxiation after swallowing his tongue. He was lan David McGruer, single, a butcher, of Apu Crescent, Lyall Bay. An abrasion to the back of the skull and some bleeding from the nose suggested initially that Mr McGruer could have been the victim of an assault, but this was discounted within an hour by a team of a dozen detectives called to the scene. The police believe the head injury was the result of a fall.
