Wallace To Lead Soccer Team

The only Wellington player in the squad, D. Wallace, has been named captain of the New Zealand soccer team to play Fiji on Tuesday night.

Wallace, aged 28, led his club, Western Suburbs, to victory this season in the first central league competition.

He first played for Wellington in 1961 and in the same year was reserve for New Zealand against Tom Finney’s touring. English F.A. team.

After becoming established in the national team in 1962, Wallace was forced out of soccer until 1966 because of injury. Last year, he went with the New Zealand team to New Caledonia. Wallace has been named in the 14-man squad as a mid-

field player, although he might also be played in the forwards.

The Auckland player, W. Hunter, was yesterday named as the replacement for the injured G. T. Lake in the New Zealand team. Lake broke a leg in a friendly match last Sunday, the day after the team was selected.
