Two World Records

World records were broken in the 200 metres and the pole vault in the final United States Olympic athletics trials yesterday. J. Carlos, of California, shattered the existing world mark in the 200 metres by three-tenths of a second with a sensational time of 19.725 cc. Carlos defeated the listed record-holder, T. Smith, of California, who also beat his mark of 20sec. Smith’s time was 19.9 sec. L. Questad, of Montana, was third in 20sec.
R. Seagren, of Los Angeles, broke the world record in the pole vault by one Inch, clearing 17ft BJln. on his first try. He failed at 18ft Ilin. The present record was set by P. Wilson in 1967.
