Cost Of Armaments

Sir, —Fear drives nations to arm, and the price is national bankruptcy, which once great Britain faces today and forces her to withdraw her armaments from east of Suez. America is facing the same prospect if it continues pouring billions into Vietnam. This suits the Communists, so they prolong the undeclared war in Asia and follow American tactics of pretending to defend abstract minorities in Europe. Communism thrives on mass poverty and frustration. We do not know how Russia finances its armaments but we do know that America is accumulating colossal debts

which are undermining its internal economy to the point of national bankruptcy when the Communist infiltrators can seize power as they are preparing to do in Britain. Whenever Britain and America change from debt to credit finance, their peoples can have butter instead of guns and such prosperity as will fortify them against the subversive infiltrators.—Yours, W. B. BRAY. Leeston, September 11,1968.
