Photo-Finish

Sir, —At Addington Raceway on Saturday, Rannach Lad was given a nose decision over Single Cash with a similar distance to Johnny Gee. I consider the distance between Johnny Gee and Single Cash was 20 times that between Rannach Lad and Single Cash. If the photofinish print that was displayed under the Stewards’ stand was the one used for the judge's decision then he would have a hard job convincing several punters that the result was right. This print (without binoculars) showed a dead-heat with Johnny Gee a nose away third. If another print gave a different view then the one used for public perusal should never have been shown.— Yours, etc., J. BECKINGSALE.

August 26, 1968 [The president of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (Mr G. W. Blaxall) Replies: “The judge’s decision is final. In this instance he reached his decision after a careful scrutiny of photo-fin-ish prints.”]
