Fishermen’s Gift

A combined effort by Lyttelton crayfishermen in the Chatham Islands and a local fish-packing firm has resulted in a cheque for $274 being given to the Lyttelton Rotary Club for its proposed Cressy Home for the Aged. “A magnificent gesture” was the way in which the gift was described when it was announced at this week’s meeting of the club. Each of the four fishermen involved, Messrs R. Threadwell, A. Brasell, G. Brasell, and N. Brasell, of the trawlers Theseus, Nimbus, Kotare and Cavalier respectively, put aside a portion of their catch during the season. P. Feron and Son, Ltd, packed the fish at half the usual cost.

Approval has been given to the constitution drawn up for the trust committee that will run the home, and the plans for alterations have been returned to the architect (Mr J. A. Hendry) for final adjustments.
