Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Reasonable supplies of vegetables were on hand at Christchurch produce markets yesterday and met a strong demand. Prices remained steady on recent sales. Asparagus was offered, and sold at 50c a bunch. No oranges or water melon were auctioned. The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association is: Silver Beet.—Boc to $1.60 a case. Beetroot.—To 50c a case. Pumpkins.—*3 to M a sack. Cabbages.—Spring: SI to $2 a case. Savoy: >1.50 to >2.25 a case. Carrots.—7oc to >1.30 a case. Cauliflowers.—6oc to >2 a case. Onions.—To >2.75 a sugar bag. Parsnips.—6oc to >2 a case. Sprouts.—>4 to >5.90 a case.; Swedes. —80c to >1.20 a sugar! bag. Potatoes.—Boc to $1.20 a sugar! bag. Kumeras. —To $3.40 a case. < Spring Onions.—To $1.50 a dozen bunches. Radishes.—To 80c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—To 11c a bunch. Lettuces. —Glasshouse: To $3 a dozen. Outside grown: To $3 a case. Leeks.—soc to >1.40 a case. Celery.—White and Utah: To >3.30 a case.
Spinach.—To >1.40 a dozen bunches. Cucumbers.—>3.7o to >4.20 a case. Rhubarb.—To >3.20 a dozen. Tomatoes.—2sc to 60c a pound. Grapefruit.—s2.2s to >4 a case. Tamarillos.—To $3.50 a case. Chinese Gooseberries.—sl.9s a case.
