Champion A Reserve

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW. V. Ivanov, three times Olympic sculling champion, will be only a reserve in the Russian rowing team for the Mexico City Olympic Games next month. Ivanov, who won the Olympic singles sculls in Melbourne (1956), Rome (1960), and Tokyo (1964), trained hard this season in the hope of winning a fourth geld medal. But he has lost his place in the Olympic team to the 23-year-old Moscow engineer, V. Melnikov, who in August won the national title in excellent style. O. Tyurin, who won the 1964 Olympic doubles sculls gold medal with B. Dubrovsky, failed to qualify for even a reserve berth in the Mexico squad. The Russian double sculls will be A. Sass and A. Timoshinin, the national champions.
