LIFE-SAVING AWARDS

New Record Established

The Canterbury branch of the Royal Life-saving Society (New Zealand) maintained its proud position as the most active in the Dominion by issuing a record total of 6509 awards during 1967-68. This exceeded by 1397 awards the previous record, set in 1966-67.

The 34 members of the Canterbury examination panel handled a tremendous volume of work. During the two main examination periods, 15 days near the end of the third school term and 12 days in March, 485 classes were examined.

The branch hopes to maintain its high standards by instituting a theoretical examination for candidate-examiners and by hiring the Wharenui pool for classes of instruction. The results of the excellence competitions held by the branch were:—
