Market Firm After Temporary Check
After a check on the recent firm trend on Tuesday, the New Zealand sharemarket yesterday recovered with rises outnumbering falls by two to one. Leaders were about even while the overseas section was unsteady.
T. J. Edmonds rights were in demand, finishing 17c higher at 122 c. At this price, the shares from the new issue, if taken up, are worth 322 c.
Finance companies were also firm, with Credit Services rising 5c to 85c, Marac 5c to 115 c, and A.G. Securities 1c to 119 c.
Insurance companies gained, with N.Z. Insurance rising 5c to 385 c and South British 1c to 500 e.
Burnett, which has been steady at 85c after the 4c ex dividend date, rose 4c to 89c. B.H.P. recovered 30c to 2165 c in Christchurch although sales were made at 2170 c in Auckland. Trading closed before the oil show at Barracouta A 4 was announced in Australia late in the day.
