Boycott Leading County Batsman
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. The England and Yorkshire opening batsman, G. Boycott, headed the first-class batting averages in the county cricket season. He scored 1266 runs for an average of 60.28.
The South African, B. Richards, playing for Hampshire, was next with 2395 runs for
an average of 47.90. O. Wheatley, the former Glamorgan captain who played only occasionally during the season, was top of the bowling with 82 wickets for an average of 12.95 runs.
Wheatley also had the best bowling figures of the season—nine for 60 against Sus-
sex on July 29. The West Indies captain, G. S. Sobers, scored the season’s fastest century—77 minutes against Kent on August 5. The leading averages are:
