IMPROVEMENT NOTED
Public Loan Support
An "encouraging improvement” in loan subscriptions last month was noted by the
Secretary-Manager (Mr V. G. Mason), at a meeting of the
Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday.
The board's current reticulation loan of $lOO,OOO went on issue on September 1, but the response to circulars was such that before that date $13,600 was actually received from the public, he said. Another $70,000 had come from the Public Trust Office, and since the beginning of the month $BOO had been received, and $l2OO arranged making a total of $85,600. The support came at a most opportune time, said Mr Mason, because the board had invoices totalling $40,000 for sub-station equipment. An earlier loan, of $40,340, had been filled with subscriptions totalling $12,800, and another encouraging sign was a visit from a representative; of a Wellington firm of sharebrokers who were interested in underwriting loans.
