(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10. A policeman was killed and two others were wounded in Los Angeles today before a Negro wearing only a T-shirt was shot dead in a battle with more than 20 other policemen converging on his apartment. The dead policeman was Gary Murakami, aged 24, who graduated from the Police Academy last Friday. He died from face and chest wounds after doctors had tried for two hours to save his life.
The Negro, who was said to have been terrorising other residents by going from door to door almost naked, and demanding entry in ‘he earlymorning hours, was identified as Addison Cash, aged 34, who had a record of arrests dating back to 1957. Cash, believed to have been estranged from his wife, told a postman before the shooting began that he was “fed up,” but did not elaborate.
