Parliament’s Diary

After a fortnight’s recess. Parliament reassembled yesterday afternoon with advice that there would be another recess from the night of Thursday, September 19, until the afternoon of Tuesday, October 1.

The annual reports of the Clutha Licensing Trust and the Defence Committee were tabled.

The Tokoroa Agricultural and Pastoral Empowering Bill was read a third time and passed. The Status of Children Bill and the Counties Amendment Bill were introduced and read a first time. The former received a pro forma second reading and was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee.

Ministers answered 10 questions. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced that Government business would take priority on Wednesdays, from today. This means that more discussion on Opposition measures is unlikely. Urgency was then taken on the Estimates. Mr Holyoake said he hoped to complete Estimates in his care, and to have completed those of the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) on Thursday.
