Rise In Births
Fewer deaths and marriages, and more births were registered in Christchurch last month compared with August, 1967.
Last month 261 deaths were registered, compared with 267 a year ago. Marriages numbered 241 (262 in August, 1967), and births 504 (491). In the eight months this year, 3773 births (3840 last year), 1720 deaths (1748), and 1979 marriages (1907) were registered. Four fewer registry office marriages were registered last month than the 37 in August, 1967, and 288 have been registered this year, two fewer than for the same period last year.
