Airport Lambing Percentage 130

A lambing percentage ot 130 is expected from the main sheep flock owned by the Christchurclr airport. In the latest issue of “Air News," the monthly newsheet of the airport authority, it says that lambing should be completed this month.

The first lamb appeared this year on May 31 and from the early lambers a good draft oi butchers’ lambs should be ready by the end of September.

New shearing facilities and drafting yards are being constructed and a contract for a new hay barn has also been let.

Last year the airport purchased 120 in-lamb ewes in May. They were one and two year Romneys and produced 160 lambs (tailed). This last autumn the flock was increased to 350 ewes. The replacement and additional ewes were Corriedales, bought with a view to improving wool returns. To get earlier lambs South Dorset Down rams were used this year.
