Help From Breedlove

(N Z.. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. A former holder of the world land speed record, C. Breedlove, has invited the 69-year-old motor-cyclist, B Munro, to “share the salt” with him in October. At that time on the Utah salt flats Breedlove will try to wrest back the world speed record now held by the Summers Brothers. Breedlove was the first driver to exceed 600 m.p.h. on land. Munro, the holder of a world motor-cycle speed record, was to have tried to set a new record on the Bonneville flats in August, but the salt was too wet.

Had Breedlove not come up with his invitation, Munro would have had to wait until next year, as the track was fully booked.

In a letter from Utah to an Invercargill friend, Munro said that he was all set to try for a new record on his modified 1921 Indian Scout machine when a storm upset his plans. Munro, a grandfather, lives in retirement in Invercargill and spends his time preparing for speed bids at Bonneville each year.
