Chappell And Redpath Rescue Australia

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

LONDON, September 2.

I. M. Chappell and I. R. Redpath rescued Australia’s fortunes after a bad start against the Rest of the World XI at Lord’s.

Australia had made 76 for two at lunch in reply to the Rest of the World Xi’s 219 for seven declared. Chappell (35) and Redpath

(22) had added 56 after Australia had lost its openers. W. M. Lawry and R. J. Inverarity fell early victims to some fiery bowling from P. Pollock, of South Africa, who shared the new ball attack with the aggressive W. Hail, the West Indian bowler. Hall removed any doubts about his fitness for the approaching tour of Australia. He bowled at a furious pace and twice had Redpath dropped. Scores:— REST OF WORLD 219/7 dec. AUSTRALIA First Innings W. M. Lawry c Lindsay b P. Pollock 12 R. J. Inverarity bP. Pollock 5 I.
