Warm, Dry August

August was considerably drier, sunnier and warmer than normal, according to a summary of the weather prepared by the Meteorological Office at Christchurch Airport. It was the warmest and driest August for 10 years. Temperatures exceeded 60 degrees on nine days and rainfall was less than half the average.

The maximum temperature, both at the airport and in the Botanic Gardens, was 67 degrees on August 7. Rain was recorded on five days at the airport and on six days at the Botanic Gardens.
