Service For R.N.V.R.
The anual commemorative service of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Association (Canterbury) was held at H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus yesterday morning. About 300 persons attended the service and wreath-laying ceremony. The preacher was Chaplain J. F. Feron, and the lessons were read and the wreath laid by the commanding officer of H.M.N.Z.IS. Pegasus (Commander R. F. Sanderson) and the vice-president of the association (Mr J. Marsden). The Christchurch Garrison Band under Captain D. I. Williams attended. Units of the R.N.V.R. Association, H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, Navy League Sea Cadet Corps, and the Girls’ Nautical Training Corps were inspected before the service by the commanding officer of the United States Navy Antarctic Support Force headquarters (Commander L. M. Johnson). The service was attended by the Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Manning) and Lady Manning, and representatives of the armed services and kindred organisations of the R.N.V.R. Association.
