VERY REV. C. J. TOCKER
The Very Rev. Cecil James Tocker. died in Christchurch last week. He was 82. Mr Tocker, who was the brother of Professor A. H Tocker, a rector of Canterbury University College, was born at Greytown in 1885. He was educated at the Greytown School, Victoria University, and the Theological Hall, Dunedin. Mr Tocker was appointed Presbyterian Minister at Geraldine in 1915, and Minister of St Luke’s, Auckland, in 1919.
He was appointed Ministei of St Paul’s, Invercargill, in 1926, and held this position until 1954, when he became Minister at St Andrew’s Presbyterian church, Greytown. He retired in 1958. Mr Tocker was Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand in 1948 and 1949, and was Moderator of the Synod of Otago and Southland in 1940.
He was interested in Rugby, and hockey and was a keen naturalist and angler. He served for a time on the council of the Southland Acclima tisation Society. Mr Tocker, who married Elizabeth Walker in 1914, is survived by two sons and two married daughters.
