ELECTRIC CAR RACE.—The California Institute of Technology entry breaking the ribbon (top) in Pasadena, California, at the start of a race across country against the electric car (bottom) leaving Boston, Massachusetts, at more than 50 miles an hour. This car was entered by students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each car was travelling to the other’s starting point. Battery recharging stations were set up on the route. The contest was held to heighten interest in electric car propulsion.
