AMNESTY IN THE CONGO
(N.Z.P.A.-Reutcr —Copy right) KINSHASA, September 1. President Joseph Mobutu has signed a decree freeing all political prisoners in the Congo. Among those to be released is Mr Godefroid Munongo, Minister of the Interior in the former Government of Mr Moise Tshombe. Mr Munongo, who is 43, was arrested in July, 1967, after a revolt of mercenaries in the province of Orientale. In Brazzaville, the president of the National Council of the Revolution (Captain Marien Ngouabi) said that warrants had been issued for the arrest of two Ministers in the Congo - Brazzaville Government dissolved after a military coup earlier this month. He said the two men, Mr Andre Hombessa, former Minister of Information, Youth and Sports, and Mr Micnel Bindi, former Minister of the Interior, had disappeared, taking arms with them.
