R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, and B. Cole (South Africa) are among 14 players on the United States professional golf tour who have qualified to compete in this year's Alcan world championship tournament, the sponsoring Aluminium Company of Canada. Two Australians, E. Ball and P. Thomson, have already qualified for the tournament from the iocal circuit. The tournament, worth $U555,000 to the winner, will be played at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, from October 2 to 5. The United States tour qualifiers were selected by their showings in four tournaments, the Cleveland Open, New Orleans Open, Western Open in Chicago, and the Philadelphia Classic. In addition to Charles and Cole, the others are: G. Archer, M. Barber, F. Beard, B. Yancey, C. Cody, R. Murphy, L. Trevino, G. Brewer, D. Stockton, G. Dickinson, B. Casper and T. Weiskopf.
most effective attacking players. P. Lund-Jackson, playing in the mid-court position, was allowed little room to move and rarely got into a position where he could use his undoubted scoring ability. His defence was outstanding. A switch to the forward line for him could have changed the trend of the game and at least upset the Old Boys defensive pattern. Lower Grades B.
