Tyre-tread Depth Recommended

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. The New Zealand Automobile Association will recommend its members to observe a minimum tyre-tread depth —although it will not press for this to be made a condition for a warrant of fitness. The depth of one millimetre, agreed on by the association’s council yesterday, is mandatory in the United Kingdom under the Tyre Safety Regulations which came into force in April this year.

The average tread depth of new tyres is about nine millimetres.
