Tour At 76

(N.Z P'ess Association) HASTINGS, Sept, 1. Mr Edgar R. Williams, aged 76, of Takapuna, ended a five-month cycling tour of 2600 miles when he rode into Hastings yesterday afternoon. Mr Williams left the Hastings factory where his bicycle was manufactured on March 21, and since then has covered many parts of the North Island. He stayed with relatives, friends, or the mayors of towns in his route. On the second-last day of his trip Mr Williams

covered the longest single stage of his tour—l 76 miles in a day from Eketahuna to Waipukurau. Mr Williams, a retired schoolteacher, is also an enthusiastic climber. Two yean ago he made hl* third ascent of Mitre Peak. He was also the first to cycle over the Haast Pass Highway. Mr Williams attributes his ability to accomplish such ventures at his age to his attitude of mind. “If you really believe you can do something, then you can do it,” he said.
