HANSOM CAB PROPOSAL
A proposal to run a hansom cab for hire in Hagley Park during the summer will need the approval of the City Council and the Transport Licensing authority, according to the council’s traffic superintendent (Mr J. F. Thomas). He said that this would be necessary as any old law still on the books relating to hansom cabs would have been superseded by the Transport Act. However, Mr Thomas said he did not think there would be much difficulty in obtaining the required permits.
Meanwhile the Canterbury Antique Collectors’ Club is still looking for a suitable vehicle for its purpose. It plans to run a cab for hire from the Canterbury Museum round Hagley Park on a fixed route for several hours a day in the months of November to February or March.
