Plane Was Sabotaged

Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, August 30.

The British Comet airliner that plunged into the Mediterranean last October, killing all 66 people on board, was sabotaged by a bomb hidden in the cabin, according to a Board of Trade inquiry report. Two scorched seat cushions fished from the wreckage proved to the investigators that the Comet was shattered by a charge equivalent to 11b of plastic explosive. The damage to one cushion, which was pierced by small metal particles, was similar to that to cushions used by safe-breakers to muffle explosions. Detectives have investigated reports that a bomb was planted in the airliner to kill the former Eoka leader, General George Grivas. General Grivas had booked to travel from Athens on the day of the crash, but left on a later flight. His friend and bodyguard. Mr A. Solomou. took the ill-fated plane and died.
