First Race In Australia
(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE Kathey’s Son. which won twice over a mile in New Zealand early this year, will make his Australian debut against a top class field in the Freeway Stakes at Moonee Valley today. Australian betters will take a keen interest in the Sabaean five-year-old's run as he is engaged in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups as well as several important sprints in the SP Notfng that he has not raced since March, bookmakers have made Kathey’s Son the outsider of the field of seven.
Kathey’s Son’s last race was at Trentham on March 9 when he ran sixth to Bywon over seven furlongs. Before that he won mile events at Masterton and Trentham. The brilliant weight-forage galloper, Winfreux. is a hot favourite in early betting, with Academy Star and Magic Ruler on the second line.
