(N.Z. Press Association) GORE. Otago and Hawke’s Bay will today contest the final of the K Cup, the premier trophy of the New Zealand women’s hockey championships, which have been conducted in Gore this week.

For Hawke’s Bay the right to contest the final was won the hard way. On Thursday it beat Eastern Southland in the final match of section play to force a three-way tie in major section- A.

Yesterday morning Hawke's Bay beat Auckland A 1-0 in a close match in the first playoff and went on to meet Eastern Southland in the afternoon.

Shortly after noon the weather, which had been fine all week, deteriorated and the final play-off was decided in steady rain. Hawke’s Bay again won 1-0. A brilliant shot early in the second half by S. Eddy gave Hawke’s Bay a thoroughly deserved win.

Otago won automatic entry to the K cup final by its win in major section B. Otago, drew with Canterbury A in the last section match yesterday but finished with a one-point advantage.

Extra time was needed to decide the ‘winner of minor section B in the second playoff this afternoon between Central Otago and South Canterbury. Central Otago won 2-1 and will meet Southland in the final of the Mills Cup.

Three teams had tied at the end of section play, and in the first match Central Otago eliminated North Otago. This afternoon the match between Central Otago, the holder of the Mills Cup, and South Canterbury, was played in heavy rain. In the first play-off in the minor section B in the morning, Central Otago beat North Otago, 3-2.
