Award Claims By Shop Assistants

Incorporation of the 5 per cent general wage order, without Court-imposed ceilings, and on an average an extra $3 wage rise may be sought by the New Zealand Retail Shop Assistants’ Federation. The federation will go to the Arbitration Court on September 12. The secretary of the Canterbury Retail Shop Assistants' Union (Mr B. Alderdice) said this yesterday. Mr Alderdice said the federation would seek extensions of equal pay for equal work. It would also seek increased payments for persons designated as buyers, and a sickleave clause. The question of late shopping nights would be discussed.
