VOTING BY POST

Akaroa Cost Discussed

The cost of postal voting in the Akaroa County this year would not be much greater than the cost of previous elections, the county clerk (Mr L. G. Eade) told the Akaora County Council yesterday. However, the postal system would be much more convenient for electors, Mr Eade said The cost of the postal voting was being carefully recorded. The cost of envelopes and printing was “not so terrific” and must be set against the likely cost of staffing polling booths. So far it seemed slightly cheaper. “If we can improve the voting by 20 per cent I think it will be worth it,” Cr C. D. Kay said.

After the election the council would have to look at the cost of the postal voting and the number of persons who voted, the chairman (Mr G. P. A. de Latour) said. If enough persons voted it would be worth while.
