Repairs To Wharves

Material bad finally been received for work on the main wharf at Akaroa, and fender piles were at present being installed, the Akaroa County Council enginer (Mr J. D. Annan) told the council yesterday. The Akaroa Fishermen’s Association had complained about the state of the wharf, the County Town Committee’s report said. The council had previously replied that repairs were needed, but priorities set after storm-damage in the area had delayed repairs. Mr Annan said yesterday that urgent repairs had also been carried out on the Pigeon Bay wharf, and decking repairs were being made to both the Duvauchelle and Takamatua wharves.

Many parts of the county had received their first substantial grading since the bad weather and most small slips had been cleared, Mr Annan said. Five culverts damaged during the floods or which had collapsed since, bad been replaced. On the State Highway most of the gang’s time had been spent on clearing small slips from roadsides. Many areas of crazed paving had been coated with emulsion and grit, and sealed edges had been patched. Sealing Tenders

Tenders for road-sealing work in Akaroa and Le Bons Bay were accepted by the council.

The council accepted a tender of $6299.60 from Farrier Waimak, Ltd, for resealing half the total length of streets in Akaroa itself, and a tender of $9075.90 from British Pavements, Ltd, for resealing two miles and a half of road at Le Bons Bay. Both tenders were the lowest of three received for each Of the jobs.
