REPRIEVE SOUGHT
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA. Aug. 29. A petition calling for the reprieve of a Portuguese sailor, Jose Manuel da Costa, now under sentence of death in the Fanny Bay gaol, Darwin, was presented to the Australian House of Representatives by a Labour Opposition member (Mr G. M. Bryant) on behalf of constituents in his Victorian electorate.
The Prime Minister (Mr John Gorton) said in Parliament yesterday that the Federal Cabinet would make a decision as soon as possible.
