A petition calling for the reprieve of a Portuguese sailor, Jose Manuel da Costa, now under sentence of death in the Fanny Bay gaol, Darwin, was presented to the Australian House of Representatives by a Labour Opposition member (Mr G. M. Bryant) on behalf of constituents in his Victorian electorate.
