No Decision On Wheat For China

MELBOURNE, August 29.

No decision had been reached after negotiations with China for new wheat shipments, the Australian Wheat Board chairman (Dr A. R. Callaghan) said today.

He said that during a recent good-will mission three members of the Australian

i board had met representstives of a Chinese company who had come to Shanghai I from Peking. Dr Callaghan issued a statement today which ended rumours that a big wheat agreement had been signed with China.

Australia depends heavily on China to take its surplus wheat In 12 sales since October, 1962, China has taken 417.9 million bushels of Australian wheat. The Wheat Board has forecast that if conditions stay good the Australian wheat crop this year could reach a record 500 million bushels. Australia’s domestic consumption is about 80 million bushels.
