Nasella Camps

Officers of the Department of Labour are investigating the proposal to make extensions to camps at Cheviot and Waiau, the North Canterbury Nassella Tussock Board was advised yesterday. In a letter to the board, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr B. E. Taiboys) said he hoped to be in a position to advise the board on his decision soon.

The board recently applied for Government approval to make capital expenditure on enlarging its camps, after the decision not to make repairs to the Hurunui camp. In his report, the board’s operations manager (Mr D. W. McLellan) said eight men from this camp were transferred to Balmoral on August 19.
