COMMERCIAL VEHICLE NEWS
Two new Dennis 15-ton vehicles, a load-carrier and a tipper, have been announced in Britain. They are claimed to have greater payload than similar vehicles. Both have fibreglass cabs and lightweight aluminium alloy bodies. The engine used is a sixcylinder 5.8-litre in-line diesel producing 120 b.h.p. at 2800 r.p.m. A five-speed gearbox is fitted.
The same company has Introduced a new high-performance ambulance which has front wheel drive and is powered by the 2.4-litre Jaguar XK engine. The engine produces 155 b.h.p. and drives through x automatic transmission. The suspension is all-independent, and radialply tyres are standard.
A powered-axle trailer which effectively makes a Land-Rover a six-wheel-drive, heavy-duty carrier is being produced by a British firm, Scottorn, Ltd. The trailer h as a Land-Rover rear axle, and the drive is transmitted by a shaft from the rear power take-off on a modified Land-Rover. The trailer is called a Bushmaster and one has been sold to the New Zealand Forest Service. It can carry one ton.
