Commonwealth Awards
Four Canterbury University graduates are among eight New Zealanders who will soon take up Commonwealth scholarships in England. Mr R. J. Astley will study fluid mechanics at Bristol University, Mr R. P. Corballis will study English at Southampton University, Mr M. J. Cullen will study history at Edinburgh University and Mr G. F. Orchard will study law at Nottingham University. A total of 217 scholars from 28 Commonwealth countries will take up awards in Britain and scholar (including Britons going elsewhere) number 500 for the fifth consecutive year. On their arrival in London, visitors will have a “period of welcome,” including receptions by the University of London and the British Government The awards cover fares, tuition fees, and living expenses while holders are in the United Kingdom. Special allowances are made for wives.
