Warning Cones At Crossings
The use of cones surmounted by small flags, to warn motorists of the school patrols will be recommended by the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee to the School Committees’ Association.
The cones were not widely used in Christchurch but would make school crossings much more obvious, the committee agreed This would be particularly the case on multi-laned roads, said the district officer of the Transport Department (Mr D. C. Hogan). The cones were widely used on such roads in the Auckland area.
Sergeant I. M. McLauchlan of the Christchurch City Council traffic department said that the schools were expected to buy a cone or cones themselves. They cost about S 9 each.
