EASIER BENDS
Track At Gore
•'The Press 1 ' Special Service INVERCARGILL.
If the fine weather continues the Gore track will provide splendid footing for the Eastern Southland Hunt Club’s annual meeting on Saturday. •The dry surface is in striking .contrast to the heavy footing at the last few meetings of the club. The going was hardly marked after horses worked on it yesterday morning. The railing of the course proper has been taken out at least 15 feet from the five furlongs to the straight entrance, and now provides a much more gradual turn. Sharp angles on the course have, as a consequence, been alleviated.
The outsilde of the course proper has been banked between the half-mile and twofurlong peg, and will be sown in grass later. During the winter, trials were run on the course with a false rail on the same path as the present one, and leading Otago and Southland horsemen were unanimous in their approval. Gore trainers and horsemen expressed their satisfaction yesterday with the improvements.
The Gore Racing Club also Intends to widen the sevenfurlong starting chute. Some foundation materials have been laid in an area which will be built up to increase the barrier maximum.
