FRANCE’S WISH
Withdrawal Urged
(N Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright)
PARIS, Aug. 25. The French Government yesterday expressed its “ardent wish’’ that Russia would withdraw its troops and all foreign troops from Czechoslovakia.
The Secretary of State for Information (Mr Joel le Theule), summarising a Cabinet meeting presided over by General de Gaulle, said the Cabinet would not accept the Soviet justification for the invasion of Czechoslovakia.
The Cabinet meeting was called specifically to discuss the Czechoslovak crisis. Mr le Theule said that France still intended to avoid “the servitude and the risks which result from the iormation of opposing blocs.” He added: “France is ready to associate herself with all European States, and particularly with the Soviet Union, which intend to practise between them the most human policy, that of peace.”
