New Hope For Rh Babies
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, August 27.
Injections being provided for women under a new procedure just begun in Auckland could almost eliminate the problem of Rh babies if enough volunteers can be found to supply blood required for making the serum. Haemolysis, or blood destruction, can occur in babies born to parents with certain incompatible blood groups, producing the Rh baby. The disease can be fatal, although for some time it has been possible to save an increasing number of lives by pre-natal blood transfusions. Women who have had such babies, or developed the same antibodies by other means, are being sought as blood donors.
