In putting the remit, Mr C. S. Masters, chairman of the Auckland division, said the flag should identify New Zealand as a nation in its own right Another speaker for the remit said that not one of a class of third-form pupils could draw the New Zealand flag correctly when asked to do so by their teacher. The remit was lost after sevesal speakers asserted that the existing flag was part of New Zealand’s heritage and should not be replaced.
