DUNEDIN. Leaders after the first two rounds of the New Zealand schoolboy chess championships, each with 1} points, are: P. Kelly (Freyberg High School. Palmerston North), R. Waayman (Whakatane High School). A. Pomeroy (Southland Boys’ High School), P. Garbutt (Mount Albert Grammar School), and E. Bures (Wanganui Collegiate School).
Results of second round matches: D. Mackintosh (Shirley Boys’ High School) lost to Waayman, A. Pomeroy lost to R. Thomson (Southland Boys’ High School), P. Kelly drew with P. Garbutt. E. Bures beat R. Chaplin (Christchurch Boys’ High School).
