Rowers’ Fund Falls Short
Canterbury’s contribution to the amount needed to send the rowers to the Olympic Games fell short by $747 at the deadline, but the extra funds had been provided in the meantime by Mr B. R. Walker, delegates were told at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association last evening.
The chairman (Mr J. O. Renaut) said the remaining funds would probably be covered by proceeds from a raffle which the association was running. Canterbury had to raise $2520 for the three men selected from the province, and $1773 had been alloted to the association from the Canterbury Amateur Sports Federation. Mr J. O. Renaut was elected president in a ballot from Mr B. R. Walker. Other officers elected were:—Patron, Mr C. A. Stiles; vice-presidents, Messrs B. R. Walker, A. H. Gould, W. G. Richards; secretarytreasurer, Mr D. L. Barnard; selectors, Messrs T. Le Bas, D. Stevens and T. Sullivan; delegate for Sports Medicine Association, Mr Walker; delegate to Canterbury Amateur Sports Federation, Mr W. G. Richards; delegates to the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association, Messrs Barnard, Walker and Renaut; coach, Mr T. Sullivan. Mr E. R. Lindstrom was elected a life member.
