Musicians Plan Boycott

PARIS, August 24.
Leading world musicians—including the pianist, Artur Rubinstein, and the violinist, Yehudi Menuhin—announced today a boycott of the States which have invaded Czechoslovakia.
In a statement issued in Paris they said “the occupation of the Czechoslovakian republic by the five nations of the Warsaw Pact is in violent contradiction to the ; humanitarian ideals we have - as artists. “Until all foreign soldiers ' have withdrawn from Czechoslovak territory and the legal Government of the C.S.S.R. is free again to govern, it is impossible for us to maintain 1
artistic relations with these five nations and Czechoslovakia.” Amongst those signing the statement, issued by the Paris agent of Czechoslovak-born conductor, Rafael Kubelik, were the pianists. Clifford Curzon and Claudio Arrau, the conductor. Otto Klemperer, the composers. Sir William Walton, and Frank Martin, and the 'cellist, Jacquelline Du Pre. __
