Firm To Move Ammunition

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 26.

Seventy-five tons of ammunition being stored in Petone by a private company will probably be moved this week. The Petone Borough Council’s dangerous goods inspector, Mr J. R. P. May, found the ammunition late last month in a Nevis Street store. On his recommendation the council undertook to have it removed from the borough as soon as possible. The ammunition is Army surplus bought from the Government more than nine months ago by International Firearms (Sydney), Ltd. It is to be shipped to Canada. A. spokesman for the Australian firm’s Wellington agents said yesterday that his company was seeking alternative storage.
