This year the Canterbury 1 junior judoka has achieved eight representatives in the New Zealand team of 21 competitors to meet the visiting Australian juniors on August 29. The New Zealand team was selected by taking the first three place-getters from each weight at the national championships, held in Christchurch during May. j Two of thjs year’s Canterbury boys. L- Tuck and C. Cavander, were also in the New Zealand team which visited Australia last year.
The Canterbury boys are A. Flynn (Christchurch International), D. Hay (Christchurch International), J. Hayward (Avonhead), Cavander (Avpnhead), P. Dixon (Christchurch International), P. Brewn (Christchurch International). Tuck (Christchurch International), and C. Giddens (Can Am Ju). Mr J- Boniface, coach of the boys belonging to the Christchurch International club, is confident that the local entrants will acquit themselves well in the coming series.
However, he says that the opposing team will be far more experienced in competition because of the greater numbers practising judo in Australia. Tuck, a brown belt, is the finest junior exponent in the country at present and much is expected from him- He w|H contest the ever lOst division. Tfie photograph thews the Canterbury Juniors.
