E. Maguire, who will run the 10,000 metres at the Olympic Games, has been given permission to use his win in the Onehunga to Auckland race on Saturday, and the coming round-the- harbour relay event as proof of his fitness for the Games. Originally he was required to equal or better 28min 30 sec for six miles before the team left R. Maddaford will also run in the 10,000 metres in Mexico City and he has been given permission to use his performance in the first leg of the Wellington to Masterton relay on Saturday as his fitness test

Maguire left little doubt as to his fitness when he ran away from a strong field in the Onehunga-Auckland 6» mile race on Saturday, winning by 35sec from the national mile champion, D. Sirl.
