Children’s Library At Riccarton?
The possibility of establishing a children's section at the Riccarton library was mentioned at a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last evening. Cr R. W. J Harrington said he and Cr D. A. Anderson had taken the question up with the Canterbury Public Library and school librarians. The City Council, he said, had a plan t. would like to put to Riccarton, and when this was received it would be considered.
Traffic Lights.—The council decided to ask the National Roads Board if the maximum subsidy would be available for traffic lights at the Riccarton Road-Matipo Street intersec tion.
Censure.—ln issuing a permit to Messrs J. and W. Jamieson, Ltd to have a display hay barn on their premises, the council decided to send a letter of censure to the firm for erecting the barn without a permit.
Development.—The counoil’s town-planning consultant (Miss N. Northcroft) was authorised to make a survey of car-parking needs in the commercial area.
Milk Assets.—After discussing the disposal of $54,000 in Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board funds, the council agreed to accept as its share $l9OB, based on gallonage. Cr G. A. Franks, disagreed, saying the money belonged to the trade and should be spent, perhaps, on research
